One of the great names in Riquewihr, Dopff et Irion owns the Murailles property close to the Schoenenbourg Grand Cru. It has attractive fresh fruits, with layers of green acidity, and tannins to give structure.

Now owned by the Pfaffenheim cooperative, this old, established négociant, makes wines that are correct rather than exciting. This wine is fresh, clean and finely balanced. But it misses the tremor of excitement that should come from a Grand Cru vineyard. Imported by Dreyfus, Ashby & Co.

This Pinot Blanc opens with a decadent, expressive nose of orange blossom, spice and honeysuckle then turns a bit more austere in the mouth. Crisp and dry, with a short-to-medium finish. Drink now.

This wine makes you work harder than many of its neighbors to find the flavor but it’s worth the effort when you uncover an intriguing mélange of hay, apricot and early summer fruits. The crisp, minerally finish puts one in mind of a platter of choucroute garnie. Drink now to 2013.

Subtle in approach, in keeping with the Dopff & Irion house style, this wine shows good minerality on the nose and moderate intensity in the mouth. Not overpowered by superripe flavors—the themes here are apple and pear. The dry, citrusy finish makes this a good pairing for a meaty fish such as swordfish or tuna.

Done in a clean and fresh style, this Pinot Gris has nice depth of flavor, with plenty of apricot and pear interest in the mouth. The fruit here is very healthy and the impression totally dry. Hazelnuts and just a touch of minerality linger on the finish.

There's a bit of rose petal on the nose, but this Gewurz tilts more to the lychee side of the taste spectrum, with spiced pears adding to the mix. Balanced and soft, with a gentle finish that fades a little too quickly.
