Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A dark, dense wine, packed with dry fruits and firm tannins. There are coffee and bitter cherry flavors. All these elements come together to produce a dry but fruity style of wine, which, like all Dow wines, is sure to age well. Imported by Premium Port Wines, Inc.

A great LBV, intense and concentrated, with dark plum skin flavors, dried raisins and cocoa. This is very much a wine that is in the dry style of Dow’s Ports.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A superbly dense, concentrated wine so rich in flavor that it almost has a brooding, dark quality. The hint of medicinal character just gives all this intensity a lift, and goes with flavors of roasted nuts and licorice. The aftertaste has just the right acidity. Imported by Premium Port Wines, Inc.

Dow's Port - NV

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
On the dry side, typical of Dow’s, a wine with jellied fruits kept behind firm, young tannins. The wine has definite acidity, bracketing the tannins and dark fruits. The perfumed aftertaste is fresh, but still keeping that dry core.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Ripe fruit, touched by vanilla, layered with dark tannins: this is a winning formula, a wine packed with black jelly flavors, made more tense by acidity and smoothed with the hint of wood.

Dow's Portuguese Red - 2006

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This dense wine is packed with fruit. The blackberry and anise aromas give an impression of the wine’s impressive size that is confirmed on the palate. This seems sweeter than most vintages of Dow’s flagship wine, but the extra sugar is balanced by big tannins. This is one single-quinta Port that doesn’t seem destined for early drinking. Try in 2015.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
There is definite weight behind this intense wine. But it also has ripe, rich, deliciously sweet and juicy black fruits. It has structure as well, a series of sweet tannins and fresh acidity. It’s the best red wine from the Dow’s Quinta do Bomfim so far.

Dow's Portuguese Red - 2007

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Surprisingly light and soft, for a Dow Port, this shows sweet fruit with a super-ripe edge. In the medium-term, this will be a pleasant, ripe vintage, but it’s not likely to age.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
While some houses now release their single-quinta wines just two years after the harvest, others hold them until they are deemed mature. This recent release from Dow's is a boon to vintage Port lovers who lack adequate cellaring facilities, or to restaurateurs who don't want to hit the auction circuit. Prunes and plums combine with tea and spice notes in this fully mature wine, with subtle hints of maple sugar and anise coming up on the finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
While this is typical of the Dow’s style, with its dryness and structure, it also has great elegance. That dryness is balanced with the fine, ripe dark berry fruit flavors and by the fresh acidity that tops it off. —R.V.
