Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A relatively dry kabinett, with slightly nutty scents of vegetable oil followed by flavors of peach pit and underripe melon. But the sum of the parts is actually better than they sound alone, offering fresh, lemony refreshment with mineral underpinnings. Drink now.

Here’s a good value in the world of Spätlese, with a clean, pretty nose of talcum powder and baby’s breath. There’s nice mineral intensity and an off-dry, mouth-puckering finish. This easy-to-like wine would be a good choice to serve as an apéritif to a crowd.

This wine, from the Oppenheimer Herrenberg, is a broad, medium-bodied Riesling that comes across as just a bit off dry. Petrol-like notes impart minerality, while the fruit hints more at citrus or lychee. Finishes long, with hints of gingery spice.
