A very well made and typical kabinett, with moderate residual sugar and crisp, tight acids. Pineapple and citrus aromas carry a whiff of kerosene as well, and the wine finishes with green apple and lime flavors. Imported by Chapin Cellars, LLC.

For being a goldkap, this is not especially lush or botrytized. Instead, it features a fine balance of acidity, which enlivens the green apple and citrus flavors and gives them extra poignancy. This is crisply balanced and mouthwatering on the finish.

Some German vineyards suffered from low acidity in 2006, but Wagner’s portion of the Saarburger Rausch was obviously not one of them. This is unusually light, tart and fresh for the vintage, with classic green apple, citrus and slate aromas and flavors and incredible focus. Very refreshing. Imported by Chapin Cellars, LLC.

The subtle nose features a medley of citrus fruits. Zesty lemon, grapefruit and tangerine flavors persist across the palate. Juicy and refreshing with an attractive midpalate creaminess adding weight and complexity. Smooth and long, with a nice mineral kick on the finish.

This is textbook M-S-R Riesling, light-bodied and elegant, with green apple and lime flavors. It’s slightly sweet yet refreshingly acidic, adding pear and citrus on the finish.

Light and easy. Clean and refreshing. How else to describe this perfect apéritif wine? There’s some crisp green apple and grapefruit flavors and yeasty scents of sour dough that will stimulate the appetite. —J.C.

Smoky and sulfury at first, with just a tiny bit of orange blossom coming through. But the flavors are better, pairing pears and lemons with notes of paraffin. Finishes tart; green apples make a brief appearance before fading. —J.C.

The delicacy of the cool Saar valley comes through wonderfully in this off-dry kabinett. Crushed-stone aromas lead the way, followed by zesty, citrusy flavors that elegantly interweave with mineral notes before lingering gracefully on the finish.
