Sweet nose with loads of ripe red and black fruits, dense aromas, almost chunky, lots of spices and cedar notes; quite sweet on the palate with tones of roasted nuts and ripe fruit; a bit coarse and lacking refinement but at the same time big and brawny; nice mix of earthen tones with the fruit; perhaps a bit short in the finish, but good for this vintage. I have had this wine several times in the past several years, and while not the greatest of La Tache’s, it always leaves me pleased; the wine always scares me on first opening as the nose begins with a dank, musty aroma, but then it moves to overripe black fruits that seem slightly cooked, touch of mint creeps into the nose; sweet and rich in the mouth with ripe and succulent fruit flavors; perhaps without the more intense and muscular character of the best years, this is still a powerful Burgundy; its failing has been and continues to be that it is hollow in the middle, which seems to be getting worse with the passage of time; still a good wine that may have its flaws, but should not be overlooked. Sweet nose, but lighter than the 1990, earthen and lots of cedar aromas, very perfumed and floral, elegant and refined; lots of sweet fruit in the front of the mouth, good citric balance that lightens the wine; perhaps lacking some of the power and depth of bigger vintages, this wine nonetheless delivers refined flavors and a long finish with great palate appeal.
