Pleasant and polished, a pale-colored wine, with sharp acids and pretty flavors of candied cherry and vanilla. Silky and delicate; charming and elegant.

This is the kind of Zin that goes well with just about anything, from salmon to burgers. It’s dry and balanced, with good flavors of berries, coffee and spices.

Here’s a wine that will surprise you. It has real richness and varietal flavor, and is dry and balanced, with the weight you want in a nice Cabernet. Might even get a little better in another year or two.

There’s lots of ripe, pretty flavor in this affordable wine. Peaches, apples, and pears are mingled with oak notes through the spicy finish.

There’s a nice wine in here someplace, but it’s hard to find under the heavy hand of excessive oak (chips? extract?). But the peach and apricot flavors are good.

Good, dark color indicates full ripening and the aromas back it up, with black-cherry, cherry-tomato, plum, anise and oak notes. It’s well made and drinkable, although not particularly varietal. Has that generic red wine personality. Still, the solid dose of fruit, soft tannins and acidity and round, supple texture make it a good buy.

Dull and insipid, with little Pinot character beyond some modest berry flavors and easy tannins. Turns gluey and thick on the dry finish.

Tea and herb notes are the watchwords here, with hints of cherry and citrus on the finish. Short at the end.

This attractive and inexpensive Cabernet shows a nose of cassis, spice and tobacco, with a minty note. Currant and medium-berry flavors, with tobacco and herb accents on the palate. Blackberry finish with that cool minty note again.

One of those wines that smells so good, you could just sniff and swirl. There’s lemongrass, vanilla, spearmint, butter and toast and a honeyed sweetness. Rich and flavorful, with melon and citrus flavors and a round, creamy texture. A slight touch of sweetness makes it fat, but it’s basically a dry wine. This is a super value. Buy it by the case for your house white. Best Buy.
