This was a pleasant surprise for me; the wine opened with a wonderful elegant and refined nose of slightly sweet but enticing lemon aromas, very clean and fresh with a touch of slate and shale, mineral qualities; sweet fruit in the mouth mixing with spicy lemons; the wine has a wonderful texture that is both smooth but defined; very well structured, and although there is a slight hint of mustiness in this wine, it adds an almost exotic quality that could pass for minerality; smooth and balanced at the finish with nice focus and well set textures; a winner. What a terrific wine, opening with a rich and ripe nose loaded with sweet fruit and sweet wood aromas, touches of lemon and smoke, but more ripeness than minerality here; rich and creamy in the mouth, ripe sweet fruit with spicy nuances; fresh lemons in the background with nicely balanced citrus notes; some might say that the wine is too round and smooth and lacks the angularity of some of the Puligny’s, but I love it; figs and cookie dough mixes with the ripe fruit; long elegant finish with wonderful lemon notes at the end. An incredible wine, but one that requires careful attention to detail; first nose is very light and remote, but then it begins to build in the glass exuding powerful aromas of cookie dough, spices, caraway seeds, touches of honey, moving over time to reveal additional complex aromas of cinnamon, smoked meat, pronounced scents of licorice; rich and thick on the palate, sweet and deep with incredible layered flavors; lemony highlights mix with sweet rich fruit; complex and elegant the wine seems bottomless, and continues to grow in the mouth for a long time; there is no limit to the finish, which is sensuous and polished; an unbelievable wine and the reason one lives to drink white Burgundy.
