Fruit seems very ripe, almost jammy, but it has an earthy, saddle-leather element that adds complexity. Deep dried-cherry flavors and a plummy feel. Spicy baked fruits on the dry, fairly long finish. 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, but all the Bordeaux grapes are there.

This fun wine is loaded with spicy pear, tangerine, tropical fruit and citrus flavors that have been lavished with smoky oak. It’s long and deep in the mouth, with a crisp burst of acidity.

Very dry, with pronounced flavors of gooseberry, lime, grapefruit, kiwi and vanilla, and the acidity is so high, the wine is tingly on the palate. You can really taste the “sauvignon” in this wine, which has a sweet herbal edge to it. Shows real complexity and finesse.

An ample Merlot. Full and fruity, with heft. Rich enough, and very Napa in style. Forceful, with an earthy, tobacco core. The broad palate shies away and thins on the finish, but overall it’s got some style going for it.

Like an English breakfast, with toast, black tea, and berry jam commingling in a pleasant whole. Fruity, clean and solid all the way through. Best Buy.

Normally a blending grape, but here on its own, extracted to the nth degree. This inky black wine is filled with lush blackberry flavors. The tannins are also big, but they’re of the soft, mellow type. Drinks a little one-dimensional, but you’ll have fun creating the perfect recipe for it.

This terrific Zin impresses for its concentrated flavors and ultrarich tannins. Blackberries, cherries, plums and chocolate cascade in waves across the mouth, wrapped in the prettiest texture. It’s soft and firm at the same time. Drinks as smoothly rich as a good Cab, yet hangs onto Zin’s unique profile.

The grapes got nice and ripe in this excellent vintage, and give this charming wine concentrated flavors of blackberries, raspberries and even a hint of blueberries. It has Zin’s wild and woolly, peppery appeal, but the smoothly ripe tannins lend it a Cabernet-like elegance.

Fairly sharp and thin, especially for the price, with earthy, coffee and tobacco flavors relieved a bit with hints of blackberry. The tannins are nicely rich and dry, but there should be more stuffing, considering the appellation and the glorious vintage.
