Three vintages into this project, and it seems like Arte de Vivir has found its stride. At this price, finding a good Ribera wine is akin to the proverbial needle in the haystack; so seek out this meaty, ripe number and dig into its plum and berry body that’s backed by vanilla, coconut and good tannic structure.

Hot, earthy aromas settle on leather and tomato, while the palate is gritty and tastes of dark, smoky, chunky black fruit. More tangy and angular on the finish than desirable, with limited depth. Standard stuff on its best day.

Jumbled and tough, this youngster isn’t all that balanced and it’s intensely grapey. But it does have great color, size and plenty of chocolaty potency and tannin. Frankly, it’s rugged and all over the map.

Once you get by some early baked-bean and bacon-fat aromas, the wine settles and unleashes lean-figured, dark-fruit flavors backed by a mildly herbal, charred finish. Covers a lot of ground but never really makes that grand statement you're hoping to find from Ribera Del Duero.
