Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dark and sweet smelling, with mocha, tobacco, briar and a whiff of dried hard cheese. The palate has a rich feel to it and good framing from healthy acidity and tannins, while the flavors of black fruit and berries are bright and forward. Round, chewy, warm and ready to run. Best if held for another year or so.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Very pure and clean wine; it doesn’t suffer from any excess weight or oak. The emphasis is on core fruit, driving acidity and power. Yet it isn’t devoid of some elegance, especially with food. Runs a bit lighter and zestier due to its acidity and midweight body. But has all the kick that Toro is known for.

Winemaker Victoria Benavides has maxed out the ripeness but has avoided any raisin, prune or molasses characteristics, which we like. Her Gran sits heavier on the palate than the 2004 Crianza, with firm tannins. But it also lingers more solidly on the back of the palate. To admire its purity and power, it’s probably best to drink over the next four years.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Despite some heat and a candied, almost carbonic bouquet, this basic Toro packs a lot of punch and depth of fruit. It’s absolutely, positively looking for some steak tips, cheeseburgers or spaghetti and meatballs to run up against; by itself it’s ripe, ready and lusty, with sweet berry flavors, vanilla and spice.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
From the talented Dos Victorias team, this is a bold Toro. Dark cherry is the fruit on the woodsy nose, while the palate is juicing with cherry, raspberry and plum. Lots of oak throughout; a palate coater that’s still pretty tannic. Can hold for several years. Imported by Grapes of Spain.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dark and rubbery on the nose, but also lightly leafy and herbal, with oak and coffee for cover up. The palate is good but slightly rough and narrow, and the flavors are not as deep and developed as they have been in the past. Plum, berry and herbal flavors are good but lead to a short, modest finish. Vintage 2008 was not a good one, and this wine reflects that.

Big and bulky, with balasmic aromas mixed in with notes of blueberry and boysenberry. Quite extracted and meaty, which is in the Toro mode. Black plum and cassis flavors are decent, while the finish is stocky and short, with chocolate. Not refined but definitely bold.
