Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Seems made in a less ripe style, a minty, wintergreen wine with hints of barely ripened blackberries and some briary wild berries. Drinks bone dry and fairly tannic. If you’re into an earthier, more French Bordeaux style, try this one. Will benefit from a decade of aging.

Napa-based Elyse is better known for their Cabernet Sauvignon, but they have reached into Nevada County, in the Sierra Foothills, for this lovely Rhône-style blend. It’s soft in acidity and the tannins are melted, as you might expect from a warm-to-hot region. But the flavors are plush in jammy cherries, black raspberries, chocolate and crushed black pepper.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This blend of Marsanne, Roussane, Viognier and Grenache Blanc is very powerful in pastry-filling pineapple, guava, papaya, apricot and vanilla flavors, with oaky nuances of smoke, vanilla and caramel, and a succulent edge of honeysuckle. It’s well-balanced, with crisp acidity providing a savory bite to the richness.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Looks rich from the dark purple-black color, and it is deep in blackberry and roasted coffee flavors. There are tantalizing hints of white pepper and fresh green herbs. Finishes too sweet for my taste, however, which limits the score.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This ultrasmooth Cabernet is velvety, with soft, round, sweet tannins. That luscious texture carries flavors of blackcurrants, cherries, anise, dark chocolate, dried herbs and vanilla. It’s so good, it makes you wish it were just a bit longer on the finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Described as a Cal-Ital blend, this wine is very soft and a little sweet in blackberries. It’s a rustic, country-style wine, and overpriced.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
From old, head-trained vines near St. Helena comes this dense, intense young wine. It’s all Napa in the claret-like structure that’s built upon firm, refined tannins. Shows waves of blackberries, black currants, dark chocolate and peppery spices.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A real bruiser of a Zinfandel, dark in color, dry and tannic, brimming with massive flavors of wild blackberries, blueberries, dark chocolate and pie spices. The tannins are hard, in the way of this mountain. Drink Now–2013 before it loses fresh fruit.

A beautiful Cabernet to drink now. Dry and classy, it has rich tannins framing deep, delicious chocolate, blackberry tart and pie spice flavors that finish long and sweet. The perfect restaurant Napa Cab.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Shows some good black cherry and blackberry flavors, with an earthier, herbal and leathery side, and the tannins stand out. Should soften in a few years. Drink now through 2008.
