It’s hard for a California Sauvignon Blanc to be distinguished, but this one is. It’s so dry and crisply tart, it makes your mouth water, which is the first duty of the variety. But it also displays a wealth of peppery citrus, fig, green apple and mineral flavors. The alcohol is refreshingly low.

Drier and crisper than most California rosés and as a result more elegant. With a pretty orange-rust color, it shows savory flavors of orange pekoe tea, tangerine zest and barely ripe raspberries and apricots, sprinkled with white pepper and vanilla. Sophisticated and compelling, this is one of the best rosés of the year.

Rich, soft and chocolaty, this Merlot has fruity flavors of cherries, blackberries, mulberries and blackstrap molasses. It’s dry, and at its best now.

Soft and syrupy, with jammy black raspberry, anise and pepper flavors wrapped into firm, ripely sweet tannins. Ready now.

A very nice Merlot that shows the variety’s softer, gentler side. It’s rich in melted pastry flavors of cherries, raspberries and milk chocolate, and finishes dry and spicy. Drink now with a grilled steak.

A deliciously zesty Sauvignon Blanc. It doesn’t seem to have any oak, but you won’t miss it, because there are wonderful vanilla, honeysuckle and buttered toast notes that enrich the peach, pineapple, green apple, honeydew melon and mineral flavors. Great price for a wine so rich and complex.

This is the palest rosé I’ve ever seen. It’s straw colored, with just a hint of ochre. It also has strong tastes, but they’re almost exactly like Sauvignon Blanc, with those infamous feline scents and gooseberry flavors. Did they bottle the wrong wine?

More oak than the wine can handle is what you get here, from the woody, buttery overtoasted nose through the soft, clumsy, creamy body. It’s a real challenge to find any fruit, so you had better like a fully wooded wine if you’re going to take a crack at this one.

Tastes too over-oaked for what you get. There are modest cherry-berry flavors, but the wine is dominated by smoky char, caramel and butterscotch. Ready now.
