Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Soft, simple and slightly sweet, with highly extracted lemon-and-lime flavors and a limpid, supple mouthfeel. It’s a nice, clean wine with pretty flavors. —S.H.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is an earthy wine with indeterminate berry flavors, very dry tannins and good acidity, and a rather rough edge to the mouthfeel. It’s an old-fashioned wine, a big, old-country red of the kind great-grandpa might have drunk, or made in the basement. —S.H.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Lots of oak inthe nose, with black cherry, earth, stewed tomato, plum and other components. Drinks bitter and sharp, with high acidity. The austere plum and earth flavors finish with a tannic sour. This is a wine that cries out for olive oil.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
From this Italian variety comes a light, pleasant wine, with floral, citrus and vanilla aromas. It’s pretty rich, with an explosion of citrus fruits and a thick, glyceriney texture.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Smells great, with plummy, dusty, earthy notes that are clean and inviting, but then shocks the palate with a high degree of sugar. Not clear if this was a stuck fermentation or deliberate. Either way, the wine is awkward and almost insipid. Barbera should be dry. —S.H.
