Pungent and herbal, with grassy notes that overlay bright lime fruit and a solid mineral base. Structured, this could age nicely over the next 5–8 years, much like a good Bordeaux blanc.

Starts off with smoky-minerally notes that are quickly joined by green apple and lime aromas. In the mouth, it's fresh and crisp, with tangy citrus flavors balanced by more sedate apple notes. Could be more complex, but this is tasty stuff.

Certainly it’s minerally, but beyond that the bouquet runs a touch mute. Clean on the palate, with green apple, lemon-lime and that same minerality found on the nose. Light to medium in body, and easy to drink. Imported by Winemonger.com.

Sabathi’s entry-level Sauvignon Blanc is a fresh, grapefruity rendition, with hints of gooseberry and a touch of smoky, fumé-style character. Lacks a bit of richness in the midpalate, but finishes with good verve.

Not as attractive as the Poharnig, Sabathi’s Pössnitzberg bottling shows some overtly vegetal aromas of bell pepper and crushed tomato leaf. It’s plump and viscous, showing good sugar ripeness, but the flavors are just too green to garner a higher rating.

A very ripe, barrel-fermented Sauvignon that comes close, but doesn’t quite pull it off. Smells like Mandarin oranges, honey and caramel, but tastes of buttered popcorn and citrus. Good raw materials, but trying too hard?

Morillon is the local term for Chardonnay, while Merveilleux is Sabathi’s term for their barrel-fermented wines. The result is top-flight Chardonnay, combining pear nectar with custardy notes and nutty, toasty goodness. The slightly oily mouthfeel carries the flavors through to a long, nutty finish.

An exciting Sauvignon Blanc from Styria, the Possnitzberg bottling is smoky and minerally, yet at the same time wonderfully ripe, boasting peach and citrus flavors and a full-bodied, concentrated mouthfeel. Finishes long.

Distinctive stuff, featuring scents of sweet corn and passion fruit accented by hints of resin and mint, then more standard melon and passion fruit flavors on the palate. Medium-bodied, but this wine seems to grow in intensity and pungency on the finish.
