A terrific Pinot Noir that’s so delicious, you can’t stop drinking it, and also shows a wonderful, classic coastal complexity. With tangy acidity and ultrarefined tannins, it gives the essence of wild raspberries and cherries. There’s a feral quality to the fruit; you can detect notes of mountain eucalyptus, fennel and lavender. Oak adds the perfect touch of smoke. Just lovely, now and through 2014.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
More tannicly dense than Failla’s estate Sonoma Coast bottling, this Pinot wants a few years in the cellar. You can drink it now because it’s so delicious in cherry and raspberry fruit, but there’s a tightness, an astringency that suggests 3-4 years to come around. If you pop the cork now, give it a few hours of decanting.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Not quite up there with the previous two vintages, Failla’s ’08 is sharp in acidity, and rather jammy in cherries and blackberries. It shows finely ground tannins and crisp acidity, and is very dry. Could develop interesting bottle nuances over the next 5–6 years, but probably best now.

An awesome Syrah that proves that, while size isn’t everything, it does matter. A major league wine, brilliantly packed with currant, black cherry, licorice and pepper flavors whose power is hard to exaggerate. For all that, the wine never loses its balance and sense of proportion. So good now, you won’t be able to keep your hands off it, but it should hold for six years.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Always a dense wine in youth, Keefer is an ager, and winemaker Ehren Jordan has captured its essence with this impressive young wine. Shows classic Russian River structure, with firm acids and a dusting of tannins that frame vibrant flavors of cherry, rhubarb, red currant, cola, pomegranate and cedar. Delicious and compelling, this wine will evolve for up to six years.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Marked by crisp, coastal acidity, this Pinot has a lightly silky texture, but the flavors are quite concentrated. Shows strawberry jam, red cherry tart and dusty spice flavors, an elegant wine of clarity and distinction. Not really an ager, but will hold for a good six years.

A nice, crisp and bone-dry Pinot that shows plenty of elegant class. Satisfies for its silky texture and flavors of cherries, raspberries, orange zest, cola and mint. Drink now.

Ehren Jordan once again dips into this cult vineyard for his Central Coast Viognier, with spectacular results. The grape pedigree is evident in the intense ripeness, suggesting tropical fruits, green apples and pears, and the acidity, which is brisk and clean. A brilliant evocation of Viognier to drink now.

. A very good Chardonnay whose dryness, acidity, minerality and cleanliness are characteristic of the vineyard. It’s a Chablis-style wine, lean and lemony, with an oaky coat. Doesn’t seem quite up there with previous vintages, but a very fine, complex wine made for early drinking.

Tastes like the real Rhône thing, from its meaty and coffee-tinged aromas to its peppery, blackberry flavors. But the structure is more Californian, soft and full, if a tiny bit lacking in texture. Peppery notes reprise on the long finish. Drink now–2012.
