Shows the better side of Paso Syrah, with a white pepper and sweet leather note to the cherry, blackberry and black raspberry fruit. The wine is soft and dry, with just enough acidity and tannins for structure, and a very long, persistent finish. Drink now.

This Syrah shows Paso’s warm climate in the soft texture and ripe blackberry, cherry and spice flavors, but it has a hint of green beans and roasted coffee that either add complexity or detract from the jammy fruit, depending on your viewpoint.

Tasted in a group of wines considerably more expensive, including from Napa Valley, this Cab stood out for its purity, balance and restraint. Really impresses for its structure, so nicely tannic and firm, and the way the currant, blackberry and cherry fruit flavors marry seamlessly with smoky oak. Represents a real step forward in Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon.

Falcone wisely reins in the fruity richness and oak on this wine, allowing acidity and citrus flavors to star. That is a nod to Santa Barbara’s cool-climate terroir, not winemaker interference. The wine is dry, crisp and minerally, with subtle lime, Meyer lemon and Asian pear flavors, with a hint of oak. A lovely restaurant wine at a fair price.

Comprised of several vintages, this blend of Syrah, Cabernet and Petite Sirah shows how well a full-bodied red wine from Paso Robles can perform in the right hands. Fully dry, the wine has rich, intricate tannins and complex flavors of dried berries, beef jerky, herbs and smoky oak. Beautiful and elegant now, and should develop for several years.

Don’t reject this Syrah, Petite Sirah and Cabernet blend because it’s non-vintage. So are many great Champagnes. Made from the 2006 and 2007 vintages, it’s absolutely delicious, so stuffed with blackberry, black currant and bacon flavors, you can’t help but be impressed. It’s also very young and fresh in acids and tannins, so give it a year or two in order to knit together.

Earns a high score for sheer richness and decadance. Huge in blackberry, blueberry, cassis, dark chocolate, bacon, pepper and oak flavors, wrapped into big, velvety tannins. Impresses for its size, but is totally dry, and retains balance and elegance. Now–2015.

A terrific Cabernet made from a blend of various Paso Robles vineyards. Just delicious, a young, softly appealing wine brimming with blackberry, cherry, currant, mocha and cedar flavors. Beautiful now, especially with a grilled steak or lamb chop.

A good, dry Cabernet showing satisfying flavors of blackberries, black currants, raisins, anise and smoky cedar, wrapped into fine tannins. Could be a bit firmer in acidity, which limits ageability. Now–2011.

Lots going on in this dry, rich Syrah. It fills the mouth with the flavors of ripe blackberries, accented with smoky oak and a touch of grilled meat and pepper. Finishes a bit soft, which limits ageability, but a lovely wine for drinking now.
