The 73-acre Quinta das Maias, under the same ownership as Quinta dos Roques, is located on the slopes of Portugal’s highest mountain range, the Serra da Estrela. The Jaen vines planted there have produced a densely fruity wine, dark purple in color, with rich, black, juicy fruit. Flavors of cranberries and dry tannins come along with firm wood, but dominating it all is richness. —R.V.
