Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This new brand, from veteran winemaker Nils Venge and friends, is excellent despite the awful name. It achieves that elusive goal of joining bigtime, ripe fruit with subtlety and charm to produce a wine of complexity. The cassis, cherry and oak flavors hit strong, then settle down and let the balance take over.

A little too ripe, with jammy raspberry, cherry, blackberry and Dr. Pepper flavors that have a pie-filling sweetness. Other than that, structurally, the wine has smooth, ripe tannins and a lush coating of oak.

Under the winemakring guidance of Heidi Barrett, Fantesca made only 490 cases of this stellar cab down from 800 in the previous vintage. Jammy berry fruit and soft tannins. Good stuff!

Even better than the 2006, which I also liked. More concentrated and refined with and nice touch of oak. The first vintage made by Heidi Barrett (and the only chardonnay she makes anywhere). Love this wine. Tropical fruit with a little vanilla.

Very strange transition to a very good taste. Upon opening, the fruit was almost overwhelming and jammy. With less than an hour in the decanter, the dark purple wine became well balanced and the tannins and acid appeared. The fruit, tho still very present

Very strange transition to a very good taste. Upon opening, the fruit was almost overwhelming and jammy. With less than an hour in the decanter, the dark purple wine became well balanced and the tannins and acid appeared. The fruit, tho still very present was no longer tasting like it belonged with white bread and peanut butter. Another hour and it was rich, layered, and complex.
