When a wine is as dense, plummy and pretty as this, you’re in business. It’s somewhat round and fat, but it’s rightly balanced by driving cherry fruit and bitter chocolate. An LBV rich enough to top off vanilla ice cream yet vital enough to be drunk by the glass is a good thing to have in the house.

Mature beyond its claimed 10 years, this is a wine that balances fine burnt and caramel flavors with some good fresh acidity. It’s dry, showing some citrus as well as wood flavors, a perfumed wine and very elegant.

A very soft, sweet easy style of wine, with raisins and forward, mature fruit flavors. Produced by a firm whose Port reputation lies in its aged tawny Ports, this is almost like a young, fruity tawny in style. —R.V.

This is a beautiful wine, finely balanced, with acidity vying easily with blackberry jelly, sweet figs and just enough structure. The finish is appealingly perfumed.

The color is a cross between violet and brick red. The nose is muddled, bordering on dull. The palate feel is on the heavy side. It seems a bit clumsy and chunky. The nutty, warm finish helps, but overall it lacks sophistication and its parts aren’t in full unity.

Bright, intense and attractive, with quite a bit of red color to it. It’s overtly sweet, yet entirely pleasant, with lively fruit and solid edges. For an everyday classic tawny that’s neither complex nor simple and dull, this is it. Lots of toffee-like nuttiness graces the tail end.

There is great balance between the ripeness, dark plum flavors and fine acidity. An intense wine, with easy tannins that are dusty, rather than dry.

Medicinal, herbal wine, with attractive white fruit aromas. The palate is rich and soft, with fresh honey and sweet fruits. Definitely sweet, it is still balanced with the fruits and the spirit underlay.
