Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The newest addition to this estate’s portfolio of wines made from international and indigenous varieties, Iperion (made from 70-20-10% Nero d’Avola, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon) is a nutty and harmonious wine with blackberry, blueberry, pistachio, bread crust and a spicy, cinnamon-like note on the close. Imported by Zonin USA.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This Cabernet Sauvignon is redolent of blackberry, dark fruit wet earth, cedar, toast, vanilla with graceful notes of dried herb or wild sage. The tannins are soft, inviting you to drink it now.

Here’s a Sicilian Cabernet Sauvignon that delivers well-balanced aromas of spice, black fruit and earth. There’s less emphasis on density and thickness and more on elegance and softness. The wine feels smooth and silky and offers some sweetness.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Sicily has proved itself a worthy territory for Cabernet Sauvignon and this wine from the island’s southeast corner is tightly packed with aromas of spice, licorice, vanilla, earth, iron, bay leaf, dried herbs and a playful touch of crushed raspberry. It does not boast the same density as other over-extracted Cabernets because it counts on elegance, not muscle.

Soft, plush and approachable, this Sicilian Merlot offers all the prerequisites of an enjoyable, well-priced everyday dinner wine. The wine is rich and velvety with bright cherry flavors followed by spice and cola. It’s the perfect wine to sell by the glass.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This older vintage of a hot-climate Merlot is almost past its prime. The wine appears old and delivers aged notes of resin, tar and asphalt with little fruit. It has a brownish hue and tastes spicy and gritty.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The age of this 2002 wine shows immediately thanks to its gritty aromas of dried fruit, earth, resin and black tar. The color of this Sicilian Cabernet Sauvignon is bright and ruby but the flavors definitely denote a wine that is approaching the end of its drinking life.

Smoky oak renderings segue into aromas of prune, raisin, black tea and mature berry fruit. You’ll also get spice and a touch of maple syrup, molasses and smoked beef jerky on the nose. The tannins are firm and thick and have been shaped by the hot Sicilian sunshine.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The fruit here is ripe and sweet with good intensity and integrity. You’ll get cola, root beer, A-1 steak sauce, dried herbs, almond nut, blackberry and currant berry. This Nero d’Avola from Zonin’s flagship estate in Sicily is thick and juicy with soft, easy tannins.
