Big, fleshy and dark in color, with a bold, heavy nose of black fruits, baked richness and sweet characteristics. The palate is chunky and full, with blackberry, baked plum, fig and herbal flavors. A saturated, lusty style of Malbec that’s deep like cake and just about as sweet.

Gummy, rough and huge, with woody aromas, muddled red fruit and a ton of kick. The palate is narrow and grippy, with tarry, concentrated blackberry and wild berry flavors. There isn’t much body or complexity to it; it’s full-force, tannic and raw. Shows why Petit Verdot isn’t usually made into a varietal wine.

Smoky and dark, with serious aromas of black licorice, earth and lush berry. The palate has a great feel to it along with huge flavors of cassis, blackberry, black peppercorn, coffee and sweet coconut. It’s stellar from front to back, with coffee, mocha and silky tannins on the finish. Composed of 60% Malbec with 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and small parts Tannat and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2013.

More exotic than many Malbecs, with intriguing aromas of prune, moss and savory berry. The palate has a proper, likeable texture and jammy flavors of black cherry and herbs. Finishes a bit short and hollow, which may be a reflection of tough harvest conditions in 2008.

Warm and saucy aromas suggest a bit of leafiness and volatility. The palate is rather tannic and somewhat hot, with leafy, herbal cherry and raspberry flavors. Finishes similarly, with pepper and herbal flavors.

Smoky, earthy and ripe, with a hint of berry syrup to the bouquet. The feel is big but it maintains agility, and while the flavor profile shows herbal qualities, the raspberry and black cherry flavors are solid. Toasty and dark on the finish, with a lasting flavor of black licorice.

Coffee and herbs carry the nose, which leads to a mildly herbal palate of leafy berry flavors and sandalwood. This is not your ordinary Malbec comprised of big fruit and creamy oak; instead it’s a mellow wine that’s hardly amplified. Finishes dry, with some bitter chocolate.

Exotic smelling, with Middle Eastern spice aromas, blueberry and herbs. Highly acidic and spiky in the mouth, with cassis and blackberry flavors in front of an aggressive finish that smolders with heat. Dense but awkward, with forceful acidity.

Dense on the nose, with a mix of black fruit aromas and mild herbs. The palate is properly acidic and elevated, with complex flavors of coconut, plum, berry, mocha, chocolate and spice. Quite oaky but the oak comes across well, i.e. friendly mocha and coffee. 64% Malbec with 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Tannat.
