A bit sweet and warm on the nose, with a cheesy accent. The palate is snappy and tannic, with plum, berry and a mild lactic edge. With a raisiny finish, this wine pours on the power. Solid for the price.

Light in color; almost transparent. The nose is largely as the color suggests: light and leathery, with old-school character. Leafy red fruit dominates the palate, which is dry and controlled by crisp acidity, tannin and spice.

Rather baked and heavy, with chunky black fruit and chocolate on the nose. First in line on the palate is raisin and prune, while in back of that there’s vanilla, dill and brown sugar. With grating tannins and excess weight, this one has balance issues while still offering some good looks at Ribera del Duero. Imported by Admiral Imports.

Rubbery yet light-bodied, with distant berry and burnt-wood aromas. Seems dilute and more acidic than ideal, with crisp fruit flavors that run tart and zippy. More of a wake-you-up wine than something rich and plump.

This label has turned a corner from its early days; the 2005 is a very nice wine with smooth, ripe berry aromas backed by black cherry, smoked meat, coffee and other savory, dark flavors. Structured and well put together, with medium-depth flavors and good balance.
