Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A little granular and reduced, with rubber, asphalt, raisin, sage and oregano on the bouquet. It’s a heavy wine with a saturated color and earthy, semi-herbal flavors of blackberry and plum. Shows full oak and some clangy acidity, but for the most part it’s a solid, driving red.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Melted fudge and asphalt are draped on this young wine’s bouquet. Given that opening, a palate of black plum and cassis isn’t surprising. Feelwise, it’s a touch rough and tannic, which is probably to be expected. Turns more herbal the more you sniff and swirl.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Broad up front but pasty, with olive and soy sauce added in. The cherry and berry flavors are zesty but nondistinct, while the finish is lean and hits with cranberry and cherry. Also shows a bit of compost.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Solid and dark, but with a pasty, mildly green nose. Frankly, this wine isn't up to the winery's regular Malbec, as heavier oak takes on a lemony character. In addition, an attempt at greater ripeness has left a wine that's reduced and lacks cushion.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Fairly deep and dense, with graphite, crude oil and leather aromas that muscle up the black-fruit foundation. The palate runs a bit short and hot, with compact berry flavors and pointed acidity. Lacks mouthfeel and complexity when put to the test.

Reduced and rubbery at first, but airing reveals bouncy cherry and raspberry aromas and flavors. The feel is juicy, almost whispy thin, and the finish is clean yet racy. If you don’t mind a thinner palate that still carries good fruit (think Sangiovese), this is in that style.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Minty and sheer on the nose, and that’s a prime indicator of what’s to come, namely high-toned, lean fruit flavors and an abundance of scouring, protruding acidity. Some oak lingers to soften things, but overall this is a sharp, underdeveloped style of Cabernet.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Bright in color and jammy on the nose, with aromas of bubble gum and blueberry. Candied in the mouth, with flavors of sugary plum and cherry. More of a junior varsity wine; it shows some talent but needs more practice. Imported by Stanza.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Intensely colored and miles better than the label’s troubled basic Tempranillo, this is an Argentinean rendition of Spain’s workhorse grape that showcases berry and plum flavors, plenty of oak and ample chocolate and espresso on the finish. More impressive when taken as a whole; best to drink with barbecue and not get too analytical.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Earthy and ripe, with lots of black cherry and raspberry on both the bouquet and palate. Comes on equally juicy and smooth, with good length on the back end and plenty of acidity to push the flavor. Balanced and on the money. Imported by Stanza.
