Sweet fruit and cinnamon notes open the nose before it turns funky and less than pure. In the mouth, there's heavy plum and blueberry flavors. Overall it's too clumsy and heavy to rate better. The blend is 50/50 Malbec and Shiraz.

Argentina’s wines are, it seems, as meaty as its national dishes. This Mendoza Reserva shows roast beef, spice and smoke on the nose, and a full, rich, even mouthfeel. The palate delivers dark oak, blackberry and meat flavors with a healthy dose of black pepper. Finishes dark and peppery, with decent length.

Light berry aromas and flavors make up this simple quaffer that nonetheless offers enough substance to satisfy. Similar to Côtes-du-Rhône; it closes with licorice notes and sweet, creamy oak. Of interest, Flichman made one of Argentina’s very first Syrahs back in 1974.

This blend of mostly Malbec with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot opens up the senses with an intense dark cherry, earth, and slightly toasted oak flavor. It is very smooth. It only required about 30 minutes of aeration and the wine rolls around the mouth like velvet. Flichman only makes this wine on certain years depending on the weather and the state of the harvest (but not when the harvest is bad mind you). The vineyard is situated high in the Andes at 1100 meters lending to its intense dark fruit flavors. Highly recommended at $16.
