Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Semi-sweet in vanilla, honeysuckle and peach fruit, with decent acidity, this wine is a blend of Santa Ynez Valley and Monterey County.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Clean and lemony, with custard and butterscotch to the nose. Pretty and citrusy if not particularly deep or complex, with blasts of grapefruit and fresh peach peeking through. Quite easy to like, but limited, with pineapple and citrus taking you home.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
You’ll like the fruity flavors and rich Oriental spices in this dry, crisp wine. It brims with sweet white peach, honeysuckle and cinnamon sugar. A very nice value in Gewürz.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Here’s a Gewürz that should be easy to identify blind. It’s richly aromatic in honeysuckle, lime, cinnamon and spice flavors, with a smoky edge, and drinks fruity and slightly sweet. Good acidity keeps it clean and sharp.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Bright edged and tangy on the palate, this serves up plenty of fresh gooseberry, lemon, grapefruit and herb flavors. It’s fresh and light, with a minerally finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Stumbles where Santa Barbara Cabs have historically fallen, with green, unripe flavors and tannins and a dry, bitter finish. This wine was not helped by the cool vintage.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Firestone made real progress with Bordeaux-style wines. This beauty, which is primarily Cab Franc, brims with lush blackberry, sweet cherry and dark chocolate flavors. While the oak is strong, it’s balanced. Feels soft and round, with an ultra-long finish.

Firestone Bordeaux-style Red Blend - 2001

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Smells good and rich, with waves of plum, blackberry, tar and smoke aromas, and the flavors are very similar. Drinks dry and tasty in the mouth, but loses a few points for a gritty tartness through the finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Opens with explosive Gewürz aromas of mingled spices, wildflowers, citrus (especially tangerine rind), and vanilla. The flavors are strong and pronounced, suggesting peaches, sweet lemon, gingery spices and grapefruit. A modest touch of sweetness makes it round and soft.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Here's a good, honest country-style wine. It feels handmade, with a ruggedness and slightly sweet finish, but the fruit is polished and ripe and the finish is smooth and clean.
