A reasonably dry, full-bodied style of Riesling, Fischer’s 2005 shows bold aromas of lemon and quince, then rounds them out with a bit of apple on the palate. Crisp; a good partner for seafood.

This lightweight Pinot could use a larger helping of fruit. There’s plenty of the earthy complexity you want in Pinot Noir—smoke, earth, beet root, mushrooms—but it all fades quickly, turning dull, with drying tannins on the finish.

Dried fruits, berries, hedgerow blackberries and firm dry tannins all contribute to this densely tannic wine, dark hued and smoky. The acidity shoots through the whole wine, making it excellent with rich foods. Screwcap.

This hard, stony-textured wine will be tough to warm up to for some, while rock-heads will extol its minerally virtues. Hints of lime and green plum keep it from being too austere, while it finishes cool and long.

This blend of Zweigelt, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot seems well suited to the Thermenregion, south of Vienna. This is a rich, perfumed wine, with juicy berry fruits and spice. There is a balanced wood element, giving richness and extra roundness. Age for 3–4 years.
