Solid apple, pear and citrus fruit and handsome oak are well integrated on the nose and mouth of this wine. It has medium weight, and shows nice texture on the palate and the finish, which has an interesting blend of soft and tangy elements. Tasty and attractive.

Napa-based Fisher has a new Chardonnay vineyard in Sonoma, 1,300 feet up, and these Dijon clones have produced an intense wine. The grapes were picked very ripe, and the wine is huge in pear and crème brûlée flavors, with zesty acidity. Impressive for its size and interest. You keep reaching for another glass.

Fisher’s been on a roll with this wine. While the ‘03 could use greater structure in terms of acids and tannins, it has that plush, opulent Napa feel of world-class Cabernet, with its succulent cassis and chocolate flavors and sweet oak. Drink through 2008 for freshness.

Ripe orange and papaya, spice, graham cracker and smoke are a few of the adjectives tasters used to describe the nose of this delightful wine. Though rich and open on the palate, it never gets loose or sloppy. A great chalk element and spice accents nicely offset the rich fruit foundation. Buttered toast and nutty, leesy notes mingle with pineapple on the long, finely balanced back end.

Smells rich and extracted, with plum, currant, anise, vanilla and oak. Tastes rich and supple. The fruit isn’t big, but the wine is balanced, rich and elegant.

This estate vineyard wine’s complex nose melds mineral, spice and lime aromas with herb and floral notes. It handles the disparate elements gracefully, showing body but not weight, and has a soft, almost tender mouthfeel. There’s a touch of floral sweetness in the mouth—as on the nose—offset by earthy, mineral flavors on a lithe frame. This wine shows real subtlety, but leaves us wishing for more depth. Finishes light, dry and flinty.

An odd wine. It’s one of the most overtly sweet Bordeaux blends from Napa I’ve had in quite some time. Seems to have residual sugar, and also a slightly Porty note.

Smells lemony and oaky. The aromas have that piercing quality that suggests ultraripe fruit and high acidity. Tastes superextracted and rich, with ripe, strong citrus flavors and plenty of oak. Flashy and strong.

The question about this wine is, will it age? Now it’s firm and hard with tannins and acids, and not too pleasant. But you’ll find rich, sweet blackberry and cherry fruit on the finish. Then there’s the fine balance of tannins, acids and oak. My hunch is, it’s a keeper.

This is a very peculiar Chard. The new oak is powerful, acidity is high despite partial malo, and there’s a strong impact from sur lie aging. All this manipulation has resulted not in complexity but in a heavy-handed wine.
