Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A really good Chardonnay that shows the classic acidity and dryness of the Sonoma Coast, with complex, pleasurable flavors. Pineapples, pears, apricots and guavas are the fruits, enriched with sweet oak, in a dry, balanced and elegant wine that could develop bottle nuance over the next 2–4 years.

Just what you want from a Sonoma Coast Chard. It’s bone dry, crisp in cool-climate acidity, and elegant, with a minerally tang to the Meyer lemon fruit. Oak barrels bring richer notes of vanilla and buttered toast. Beautiful, and should hold through 2012.

Soft and a bit heavy, with jammy flavors of cherries, raspberries, anise, cedar and mocha. Delicious in the sheer voluptuousness of these tastes, but could use firmer structure.

One of the richer Pinots out there, just packed with ripe raspberries and cherries, like the filling in a pie. Shows great, cool-climate acidity, and the texture is as light and silky as can be. Defines the best of a drink-now style.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Another rich Chardonnay from Fogdog, which has a great track record. Crisp in coastal acidity, it’s enormously rich in pineapple, lime, buttered toast, crème brûlée and cinnamon spice flavors. Very elaborate and opulent, a wine to drink with lobster, scallops, grilled tuna.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Good and rich, but a bit ungainly. Sharpness makes it tart, and the oak stands out, shoving the cherry, currant, plum and cola flavors aside. These may be the marks of an immature wine, but it is very difficult to forecast this Pinot’s future. On the assumption that balance now equals balance later, it’s probably not an ager.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Marked by big, sharp acidity, like biting into a lime, and clean, linear flavors of limes, green apples and pineapples, this bone-dry Chardonnay badly needs food to balance it out. Think of bacon-wrapped grilled shrimp, or a spicy Ahi tuna tartare dish.
