Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a firm, tart and tangy white wine with gooseberry, white peach and some green papaya all reflecting a rather cool, high-acid vintage. Refreshing and crisply structured, it’s quite suitable for mellow cheeses and seafoods.

Dark, dense and lush with rock, cracked pepper, Bing cherries, streaks of spice and mocha, this nicely aged and softened Merlot is full and open. The fruit is round and generous, the tannins polished, and the flavors wrapped in delicious baking spices.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The blend includes 2% Muscat, an experiment that may not be repeated, though it worked quite well, boosting the aromatics and adding pretty floral notes at the top. The fruit is solidly anchored in citrus, pear and peach; and the barrels add a pleasing toastiness to the finish. There’s a hint of anise as well. Lovely balance and fullness throughout.

Forgeron Cellars Chardonnay - 2006

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The grapes come from three very widely separated vineyard sources. The Klipsun, says winemaker Marie-Eve Gilla, is for the backbone and tannins; the Pepper Bridge gives dried herbs and tighter tannins; and the Alder Ridge is more European and fills out the midpalate. This is showing very well, and has clearly benefited from the extra bottle age. It’s beautifully integrated, with the tannins substantial but polished. The fruit mixes ripe berries and moves smoothly into flavors of earth, smoke, tobacco and graphite.
