Whatever magic Foris works with its Pinot Gris is wonderfully captured in this near-perfect effort. Vibrant and fruity, clean and forward, it is softly scented with fragrant pears and citrus zest. Somehow it is both big and rich, yet still elegant and balanced, with true varietal character. Best Buy.

This is a fruity, spicy style of Riesling. It rests solidly in the midpalate, with apple, pear and white peach fruit, plenty of natural acidity masking the residual sugar, and alcohol just over 12%.

Oregon rarely gets credit for how good its Gewürztraminers can be. This is a perfect example: a classic, varietal nose shows citrus blossom, baby powder and lychee; it’s both fragrant and slightly exotic. Clean and creamy in the mouth, its floral flavors have elegant textures and surprising length. Best Buy. —P.G.

Made in a tart, tangy, refreshing style, this tastes of immaculately ripe green apples. No hint of wood, just bracing fruit in a straight-forward, food-ready style. —P.G.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A dark straw color, with a nose of pears, citrus skin and yeast. Very dry and firm, with streaks of steel, petrol, mineral and lime. This is a taut wine, with less assertive fruit than many Oregon Pinot Gris. Some troubling bitterness lingers on the finish.

All barrel fermented; about half went through malolactic. This is a very light, green appley wine, with firm acids and clean, lightly cinnamon-spiced fruit.

Pretty scents of violets and cherries characterize this young Pinot. It’s not a big style, but it has a lovely balance and it doesn’t overreach. It’s complete, light, and flavorful, with well-managed tannins and a hint of pleasing spice in the finish. —P.G.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
First planted in 1988, the Maple Ranch Pinot has a soft sweetness and a generous, open profile derived partly from the vintage and partly from an additional year of bottle time. Lush berry and chocolate flavors coat the palate; the wine finishes sweet, round and full-bodied. —P.G.
