Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Open, round and clean, with a lovely bouquet and an even better palate that offers strawberry, plum and a full blast of creamy oak. Turns soft and friendly upon airing, and overall it provides complexity along with straightforward likeability.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A typically masculine Priorat red, one with beef jerky, leather and reduced blackberry on the nose, and then a fully jazzed palate with lively berry fruit, chocolate and mocha. It’s not soft, but it remains round and lush, and the finish is warm and spunky.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A waxy, thick wine with extract but too much flatness to carry its own weight. The nose is jumbled, with mustard seed and dried fruit aromas. The palate is rich, almost creamy, with some peach and vanilla. Still, it falls short prior to the finish line.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This vintage seems lighter on its feet than previous versions, but it’s still a strange, atypical wine made from Garnacha Blanca and other Priorato white varieties. The bouquet is heavy and dusty, while the palate is thick and woody, with white pepper, peach and melon notes. Pithy bitterness weighs down the finish. Unusual but stirs interest.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A bit transparent in color, but only by Priorat standards. The nose, however, offers all the crusty, earthy red fruit you’d expect; it leads nicely into a palate of sweet cherry, plum and vanilla. Big enough on the finish, with mouthfeel galore. The full package from the town of La Vilella Alta, and not too tannic. Imported by Winebow.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Expensive for what you get. The nose is a weird mix of salami and sweetness, and the palate is a syrupy, globular blend of cloying oak, caramel syrup and candied banana. Way too much wood and vanilla here, and not nearly enough balance or purity.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Opens with rooty, mature aromas of tobacco, baked berry and raisin, while the palate is full and roasted, with sweet baked-plum and brown sugar flavors. Mature and ready to go, with head-to-toe sweetness and molasses accents. Not a hard, tannic wine. Drink now through 2012.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Ethereal and sort of reminiscent of a fine Port, or maybe Banyuls. Pure and ripe on the nose, with licorice, violet and wild blackberry aromas. This is a smooth-drinking wine that’s showing some maturity; meaning the tannins are smooth and the acids not too pointed. A real mouthful, with a measure or two of depth. Finishes big. Imported by Winebow.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A little rusty in color and somewhat transparent, with raisin as the key aroma. There’s not a lot going on in the mouth, but the wine is mellow and deep, with sweet flavors of molasses, berry syrup and baked black fruits. Rich and candied, but rather sweet and a touch dull for Priorat. Drink now.
