It’s the glorious pale gold color which sets this wine as a star. That color is the forerunner of the rich botrytis and honey aromas, touched with flavors of tropical fruits and mangoes. It is rich, balanced and intense.

This is sweet and rich for a kabinett, with smoky, minerally scents that accent bright apple-juice flavors. Finishes a bit soft.

Frankly sweet, and somewhat oily in texture, this is low in alcohol (7.5%) but high in sugar and ripeness, bringing tropical fruits like mango and papaya to mind.

This wine is the perfect example of the difference between the huge richness of a TBA and the relative delicacy of an Eiswein. Like pure syrup, it trickles through the palate, leaving flavors of ripe apricots, of orange marmalade and of intense honey. The intensity of the fruit flavors masks the high acidity but does show up the lightness that stays in the mouth.

The intense sweetness of this may be one-dimensional, but what a dimension. With its deep gold color, the richness is overpowering and intensely opulent. A wine to savor in sips rather than gulps.

Caramel and warm straw aromas are not what makes this wine attractive. But the yeasty fruit, and full fat flavors with a touch of acidity certainly make it immediately drinkable.

These Trocken Spätlese with their high (12.5%). alcohol are strange. They lack the grace of the lighter wines. But they pack punch and power which lies oddly with freshly ripe grapes. Peppery characters are uncomfortable to drink.
