With its poised, sweet but delicate fruit, this is a fine, fresh wine from the top vineyard in Graach, next to Bernkastel. Acidity shows through at the end, leaving an fine purity and tastes of redcurrants.

The minerally wines of the Trittenheim Apotheke vineyard have gained enormously in reputation in recent years. The character shows well in this creamy ripe wine, with its soft, delicate fruit flavors shot through with a crisp layer of tannin, which shows how young the wine is. Yeasty flavors show through. This will develop well over 5-10 years.

The school vineyards of this high school (whose more famous alumni include Karl Marx) produce wines which are typically light. This wine is still very young, showing yeasty aromas, but the palate is creamy, with some yeast flavors on top of sweet acidity and flavors of green grapes. The aftertaste leaves a touch of citrus.

The wine has immediately attractive aromas of almonds, followed by full, nutty fruit with layers of acidity and sweet fruit. It is intense, immediately appealing, showing flavors of almond cakes.

Light in weight, this is a refreshing throwback to the kabinett style of the ’70s and ’80s rather than the declassified spätlesen that pass for kabinett so often these days.
