Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Here’s an austere and sophisticated Brunello with a slightly brownish hue to its garnet color and aged aromas of dried currants and forest berries, spice, mesquite, soy sauce and licorice. The wine is exceedingly silky and drying in the mouth.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Anyone who loves great Sangiovese should snap up this star-quality wine. Always a personal favorite, the ’99 doesn’t disappoint. It’s lively and electric, with structure equal to the Tuscan fort in which it was tasted. As for flavors, look for overflowing blackberry, cola, mocha and more. A wine that can probably last for 15 years.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a modern and sweet-smelling expression of Brunello with aromas of allspice, ground ginger and candied fruit. Beyond those aromas are layers of chocolate and soft vanilla cream. The wine has loads of personality and a great, long finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The Fuligni family makes very nice wines and this light Sangiovese is no exception. The wine is bright and crisp with a full and generous quality to its fresh berry tones. It would pair with pasta or grilled meat.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Year after year, Fuligni delivers some of the most attractive and richly complex wines from Montalcino. This year’s interpretation, however, seems to put more emphasis on territory-driven notes of mineral and earth. You’ll also recognize bright blueberry and pristine cherry notes that promise a long aging future. Drink now through 2015.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Compared to past vintages, this Riserva embodies a lighter, more elegant style. Aromas are delivered in a direct and vertical manner and include cherry, red currant, chocolate and shadings of exotic spice. In the mouth, this wine shows enormous intensity, but also harmony and balance.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This winery is always at the top of the heap, and it’s 2000 shows true depth of flavor, texture and nuance. Seemingly approachable now, with classy plum and berry aromas and flavors. Softening any astringency is vanilla and tobacco, while a distant shot of citrus adds life. The whole speaks louder than the parts; a super overall package. Imported by Empson (USA) Ltd.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Fuligni’s newest Brunello is characterized by well-polished and very elegant tones of graphite and slate roof that give the wine a defined mineral backbone. It becomes more expansive on the palate thanks to its natural richness and fruit-forward berry flavors.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Even though this wine starts out weaker than it finishes, the whole package is really nice. Some earthy, stewed-fruit aromas lead into a broad and spicy black-fruit palate. Well-applied wood tones add character to the finish. And the balance seems spot on. While it’s firm and tight, you don’t get hit with hard tannins or overt oak. In a word, it’s balanced. —M.S.

Delicate balsam, evolved cherry-berry and smoky roundness are delicious. A good, compact structure with untamed tannins. Imported by Empson (USA) Ltd.
