This elegant expression of Nebbiolo from the Prapò cru takes a feminine, delicate approach with pretty floral tones, rose petals, light shadings of spice and tobacco, cola and tangy licorice. The fine texture of tannins underscores the wine’s long, silky feel.

Modern, but not excessively so, Germano’s Barolo Cerretta combines cedar and vanilla seamlesssly with supple black cherry fruit. Long on the finish, the ripe tannins provide a rich, chewy texture. Drink 2005–2015.

Prapò is textbook Barolo with classic aromas of wild berry, white truffle, cola, ginger and root beer. The wine has a menthol-like lift and tastes elegant and fine on the close. This is a perfect wine for Barolo purists.

Soft, ripe cherry and velvety tones of spice and nutmeg open the bouquet of this balanced Barolo from the powerful 2007 vintage. The wine shows concentration and power with lingering tones of chocolate, espresso and cured meat over a solid structure.

This is a straightforward and genuine Barolo with deep layers of bright fruit, spice and mineral packaged seamlessly together as a whole. In the mouth, the wine is clean and elegant with dry, finely textured tannins.

Spicy, leathery aromas lead it off, and at no point is this a pure and polished prince. It’s a touch wild, as there’s lots of leather and drying tannins. Better at first, the fruit thins during tasting. Still, there’s more good cherry and earth here than mitigating factors.

Here is a very interesting Barolo Riserva that boasts lively balsam notes of licorice, cola, hummus, pressed violets and candied fruit. There’s a citrusy touch of dried orange peel or lemon zest as well that gives the wine a bright, refreshing personality.
