Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Rich nose, lots of ripe fruit, mature now with perfumed aromas that have a floral character, earthen, hints of smoke, black cherries, damp wood; sweet and ripe in the mouth, black cherries, citrus notes; spicy with a shot of black pepper and leather; long finish, layered and fulfilling. (17/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Sweet and ripe nose, lots of black cherry aromas, sweetly perfumed and quite floral, deep and rich nose; sweet and ripe in the beginning, but then becoming very dry and wooden; the fruit seems to collapse, replaced by dry tannins that never loosen their grip; dry austere finish, spicy and peppery; somewhat of a disappointment. (16.5/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Typical Dujac opening with exuberant floral and perfumed aromas, sweet and exotic, but hard to tell what it is for all of the exploding aromas, black fruits emerge a little later when the first wave or aromas calms down; sweet and quite rich in the mouth, ripe and almost jammy black fruits; intense flavors; showy and assertive; long finish with a New World intensity to the wine. (17.5/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Barnyardy and very earthen nose on first pour, iron and black pepper, sour mash, softens with more time in the glass; big and layered in the mouth, lots of black fruits on the palate; sweet on the one hand, but also austere and reserved; nicely balanced though; long finish with spicy fruit flavors layered over with dry tannins and a firm structure; needs more bottle time. (17.5/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Nice nose with light aromas of red cherries, currants, earth, hints of wood, light and not very complex; pretty much the same in the mouth; good flavors throughout, but light and not showing much depth; a bit thin with too much citrus on the palate; better with more time in the glass, picking up some extra layers of flavor near the finish; good finish, red cherries and currants, light tannins. (16.5/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Very sweet and ripe nose, classic Dujac with extracted fruit aromas, sweet fruit, sugar, floral and perfumed; first taste is encouraging, with ripe cherry fruit on the palate mixed with nice textures that are almost jammy; but then the wine seems to thin out in the mid-mouth, producing more citrus and lemony flavors; a bit short at the finish and somewhat flat. (15/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Excellent nose, opening with a strong presence of perfumed aromatics, floral with scents of lilacs and hyacinths, sweet fruit; really sweet and smooth in the mouth; lots of ripe cherry flavors; silky and elegant; the power is missing but the grace is there; quite impressive for a village wine. (16.5/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Sweet nose with a definite metallic undertone, lots of earth notes, deep black fruit, smoke, hints of caramel, lightly floral; sweet, smooth and silky in the mouth; red fruits; quite tart and dry on the palate, but with fullish flavors of lemons and sour cherries; light structure; good dry finish, clean and fresh; not a major event, but good for what it is. (16.5/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Intense and concentrated nose, rich and spicy with lots of pepper, black fruits, chocolate, licorice; the same concentration carries forward into the mouth, reflective of the style of this producer; intense fruit in the front of the mouth, extracted flavors here; big and deep flavors that are complex and layered; licorice, cassis, blackberry syrup; but lest one forget, there is plenty of citrus fruit to balance the wine and provide more palate feel; long finish, this won’t be to the liking of many who prefer the lighter and more subdued Burgundies, but this is a statement. (18.5/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Intense nose, loaded with black cherry and earth aromas, sweet, extracted fruit, ripe, smoke and spices, black pepper; sweet and intense in the mouth; there is lots of fruit here with the typically big extraction that this winemaker is known for; red and black cherry, earth, spices; good acid balance and plenty of tannins; there is a maximum of extracted fruit here from this property, but it is in balance, and I suspect will improve more with additional bottle time. (17/20)
