Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A fruit-driven wine with dark stone fruits like plums and cherries, and a strong earthiness - think of the scent of tree bark on a hot summer afternoon. Plenty of tobacco and spice, too. Bone dry, with some puckery astringency.

Delightfully refreshing, this sparkling wine is dry, yet filled with complex black cherry and bitter almond flavors. Made in an Aussie style, it also serves up pretty licorice, raspberry and herbal accents for added interest. A dark alternative to standard sparkling fare.

One of the best unoaked Sauvignon Blancs on the market. Clean and briskly acidic, it shows complex lemongrass, Meyer lemon, orange, green melon, fig, mineral and spice flavors. Could finish a bit drier, but it’s an outstanding wine for cocktails, Asian fare and seafood salads.

You get mostly cedar and charred oak at first, with hints of cherries and mocha. This is one affordable Merlot that doesn’t lack for structure—it’s just that the structure seems largely wood-derived, leaving insufficient fruit flesh to fill in the gaps.

A bit quick on the finish, but otherwise a nice everyday Chardonnay. Shows a soft, buttercream texture, with dry, subtle flavors of pineapples, pears and buttered toast.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Starts off with smoky, grassy notes that gradually build in impressive passion fruit and pink grapefruit flavors. Finishes spicy and almost peppery. Next vintage, this is slated to become a single-vineyard, “Block Collection” wine in Geyser Peak’s lineup; let’s hope the price remains stable. 250 cases made.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is the epitome of California Chardonnay, in all of its marvelous excess of butter, toast and richness. It’s viscous and creamy on the palate, with modest apple and pear notes on the finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a big, tannic and dry Cabernet, but it’s very elegant, and shows the pedigree of Alexander Valley at its best. Impeccably balanced in acidity and tannins, the fruit is pure blackberries and black currants, with a wonderful earthiness suggesting dried sage and thyme. Should develop nicely over the next 6–8 years.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Geyser Peak released their regular ‘04 Cab many months ago, at a lower price, but this is not a better wine despite the reserve designation. It’s ripe in black currant, herb and oak flavors, with soft, supple tannins.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Grapes had no problem ripening and the wine brims with sweet blackcurrant flavors. Generous oak boosts spice and vanilla, while tannins are soft but molded. This is an early drinking wine of charm and finesse. Drink now through 2003.
