This is really a nice Cabernet Sauvignon. Soft and polished, it shows herb and cassis flavors, wrapped in rich smoky oak, with a long, dry finish. The tannins are quite strong now, giving the wine a chewy toughness and suggesting moderate aging. Hold until after 2008.

Burning hot in alcohol, this Zin is totally dry. It has peppery flavors of shriveled grapes and currants, with a bitter mouthfeel.

Feels hot and Porty in the mouth, although it’s very dry, with bitter raisinskin and shriveled cherry flavors. The alcohol approaches 16%.

Not for the faint-hearted, this Zin is brawny and tannic, and high alcohol gives it a fierce burn. But it’s fully dry, and has strong, deep flavors of dark forest berries, leather, tobacco and peppery spices. Now–2012.

Defines a very ripe, varietally true interpretation of Zinfandel. It’s the kind of wine the old Italian-American families might have enjoyed in days of old, with its lusty flavors of freshly picked wild berries that were made into jam. The alcohol is on the high side, but the wine is luscious.

Gia Domella scores with another fine Cabernet off this property, although this ’06 is $7 more expensive than the ’05. It’s a dry, 100% Cab that shows an herbaceousness and soft tannins to the sweet oak and blackberry flavors. Now–2014.
