From the Monforte d’Alba part of Barolo, this is an absolutely beautiful wine with deep layers of spice, dark fruit and licorice all backed by powerful structure and succulence. It’s a bold, modern wine that would pair well with the best cuts of beef.

Very young when tasted, this 2005 Barolo shows excellent potential and quality of fruit. Mineral notes like black slate and ash are laced within plush aromas of white truffle, leather, tobacco and wet earth. The wine shows great intensity and impressive staying power. Drink after 2015.

This is an impressive wine from Gianfranco Alessandria that manages to be intense, complex and sophisticated at the same time. There’s smoke, road tar, licorice, truffle, cedar and faded rose here that are enhanced by smooth tannins and a beautifully polished finish. Save this one in your cellar.

Espresso bean, chocolate and mature blackberry shape a solid and dense wine that also boasts ethereal accents of licorice, cigar box, cedar and spice. The texture here is smooth, yielding but firm and the wine definitely leaves a long and delicious mark on the palate. Drink after 2015.

This is a lovely wine with a generous disposition and intense aromas of forest fruit, nutmeg, clove, anise seed and licorice. In the mouth, it boasts a broad, round feel with a long, velvety finish. Pair this wine with thin slices of grilled steak topped with porcini mushrooms.

Here’s a fantastic addition to your cellar collection of Barolos. Gianfranco Alessandria’s San Giovanni Barolo is at the top of its class. The wine is elegant and ethereal with dark, spicy concentration and loads of pulpy fruit, licorice, ginger, cola and leather. Open this bottle in ten years or so.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
It’s extraordinary how this winemaker has extracted intensity, purity, color and concentration from this grape to make what is ultimately a very sophisticated wine: dark and bold with loads of spice, chocolate and black fruit. Give it at least one more year in the bottle.

Vittoria is one of the best Barbera d’Alba wines you will ever taste. Chocolate fudge, powdered mocha, blackberry and exotic spice waft gently off the nose of the luscious but delicate Barbera d’Alba. The wine is dense and round (it’s aged in oak, 50% of which is new barrique).
