Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The high quality of simple, introductory wines like this cuvée is a great sign for the bigger 2005s yet to come. The aromas are intense without being jammy or overripe, featuring peppery, herbal notes to go along with bold raspberry and cassis fruit. The tannins are supple enough to make this approachable right away. Drink now, and plan to stock up on Robin’s 2005 Cuvée Alberic Bouvet when it’s released.

Nicely balanced, featuring fair levels of complexity and structure. The bouquet boasts hints of raspberries, fresh herbs and peppery spice, while the fruit becomes more forward and dominant in the mouth. Plump and medium-bodied, with a surprisingly creamy texture and some modest tannins on the finish. Drink now.

The nose is a smoked-meat, sandlewood, leather and blackberry joyride; a cool, metallic note rides sidesaddle and keeps quiet for the most part. Bacon is the leader on the palate; juicy berry, plum and mineral notes round out this medium-weight pleasure bomb. The finish is long and mouthwatering, and bolstered by soft tannins. Will be even better after two years in the cellar. Cellar Selection.
