Slightly herbal or floral notes mark the nose of this wine, layered over a core of rich milk chocolate, black cherries and hints of roasted meat or tar. The extra aging has imparted a creamy, supple mouthfeel. One reason we liked this wine so much was its easy accessibility; not all Barolo has to have massive tannins. Drink now–2010.

The Giribaldi’s distinctive bottle houses an easygoing, pleasant wine. The fruit is just ripe, showing clear strawberry and red cherries. There is plenty of acid, and a short medium finish.

The immediate sensation is of sulfur and reduction; underneath there is some greeness but also bright red fruit and floral flavors, with a short to medium finish.

The nose is ripe, bordering on overripe. There are scents of fading flowers mixed with raisins and licorice. The chewy palate is on the big side, with loads of plum and cherry fruit. The best part of this wine is a pleasant smoothness on the palate; the edges are round and not the least bit hard.

Supple and oaky, this modern-style Barolo boasts ample plum fruit that’s backed by cinnamon, vanilla and toast. A solid restaurant Barolo, not needing years to reach its peak.

Light, clean and overall quite nice. There’s nothing particularly distinctive about the aromas, but they are fresh and full. Good acids and some white-pepper nuance balance flavors of melon, apple and pear. Even a bit of green herb shows up on the zesty finish. Not a complex wine, but it is tasty.

This has textbook aromas of smoke, earth and cherry. On the palate, the flavors come through, and if in the final analysis, it lacked a little concentration, the complexity was here, and the finish is decent. Imported by Global E. Selections, LLC.

Aromas of slow-roasted tomato and dill pickles are stimulating. Cherry and roasted corn flavors show more red fruit than dark fruit, for a wine that finishes with smooth nonaggressive tannins.

A fine example of a Barolo, and a marvel considering the problems of the 2002 harvest. The fruit is dark and juicy with plenty of concentration, with the added complexity of roses and pencil shavings. Nicely textured, with a medium to long finish. Imported by Global E. Selections, LLC.

A nose of carob, licorice and earth carries a touch of green bean. The palate is grapey and sweet, especially at first. What some might call a cloying finish, others might find rich and chewy. Overall it’s a dicey but hedonistic mix of sticky black fruit, prune and tannins.
