Appealing nose of sweet and ripe fruit, rich but also quite advanced, earthen and dusty with pepper and herbs evident; dry in the mouth, and lacking sufficient fruit to sustain the appeal that was there in the nose; the wine seems to be past its time, and has lost much if its internal character; very light at the end, with woody flavors; other bottles served at other tables, however, may have been better given the glowing reports that others at the dinner gave this wine.
