There's a pleasant combination of sweetness and citrus in this easy-drinking Pinotage rose, though its candied edge pushes the wine into the "garden party" sphere despite valiant efforts to keep it grounded. Strawberry, banana and lemon on the nose lead into a fresh burst of fruit and flowers on the palate. It lends itself to summertime drinking with salads and seafood.

Tart but tasty, with lots of rhubarb, cranberry and red currant fruit. Bright acidity yields a lively light palate, with sour plum and even some citrus notes. This decent everyday red closes clean and tangy.

Attractive everyday wine with a red berry-spice profile, and a nice mouthfeel—neither too soft or hard. Shows good if slightly candied fruit with leather-herb accents. Uncomplicated, enjoyable. This relatively unknown brand delivers dependable quality in this price range.

This newly created South African brand, a joint venture between the German firm Racke and the South African KWV, is producing some well-made, immediately attractive wines, such as this Chenin Blanc.
