After a disappointingly vegetal 2001, Goldwater’s Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc has returned to form, offering citrus and stone fruits allied to fresh herbs and peppery spice. The creamy mouthfeel adds a touch of roundness to this lively, vivacious wine.

Quite green at first, with asparagus and green bean aromas that become mellower and more tobacco-like with time in the glass. The mouthfeel is supple and easy, the finish pleasantly chocolaty, but there’s too much green for this wine to rate as highly as it’s capable of in riper vintages.

This elegant, medium-weight Merlot shows a Bordeaux-like nose of damp earth and tobacco, but also more New World-ish cherry and vanilla flavors. Tobacco and chocolate shadings add depth and complexity.

A rich, toasty, buttery Chardonnay, filled with aromas and flavors of baked golden-delicious apple, which somehow manages to retain a sense of balance. The thick mouthfeel seems to last into the lingering finish.
