Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a fragrant, very fruity style, a blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 44% Merlot. Bright, well-defined cherry-berry fruit carries with it a solid wallop of alcohol. The acids remain high enough to balance it out, and there is just enough new oak to add interest, without dominating.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A sweet nose sends up plenty of toasty oak scents; the fruit is straightforward, middle-of-the-road Chardonnay, with flavors of fresh cut apples. Fairly soft, it finishes with vanilla and more oak.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Made to commemorate Gordon Brothers’ 25th anniversary, this blend of equal parts Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah captures an unusual mix of sweet black cherry and plum fruit, spicy pepper and herb, and soft, rich, almost buttery tannins. There is a lot going on here, although it has not yet completely knit itself together. What stands out is the juicy sweetness of the grapes, and the ripe tannins, with a black pepper and chocolate wrapping.

Gordon Brothers Red Blend - 2006

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is spicy, woody and sharp, with good red fruits. However, there is a strong streak of bitter green vegetal flavors running through the tannins. The bitterness may subside with more cellar time, but at the moment it does kill a lot of the fruit sweetness.

Gordon Brothers Syrah - 2005

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
No visible vintage date on the bottle, but the winery says it’s a 2001. Tart and lemony, with crisp acids, it tends toward bland, with simple, green apple fruit.

Gordon Brothers Sauvignon Blanc - 2001

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A pretty lemon yellow, this organically-grown estate reserve has juicy natural acidity, and tight, tart citrus fruit that zips around lemon, lime, white peach and a hint of pineapple. The barrel flavors are generous but not overblown, and the structure suggests it will keep well for 6–8 years.

Schizophrenic juice, which starts off herbal and green—bordering on asparagus—before settling down and delivering coffee, dill, blackberry and vanilla flavors on a creamy-textured mouthfeel. Then it thins out on the finish, fading to lemony acids.

Gordon Brothers Syrah - 2002

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A late release, this mature blend of Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah is quite delicious, with a smoothness acquired by all the extra time in bottle. The flavors have moved into secondary fruits, and the tannins are softened by time. You’ll taste a pleasing mix fruit pastry, jam and brioche as the wine slides into a pillow-soft finale. It’s not a blockbuster, but it’s drinking at its peak.

A clean, high acid style, showing pineapple/citrus fruit flavors and light touches of fresh green herb.

Gordon Brothers Chardonnay - 2004

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is an amazing first effort for Gordon brothers, from five-year-old vines. Earthy and deep, it’s loaded with coffee grounds, funk, meat and super-rich black fruits. The color is almost black, and after you pass a little dip in the midpalate, the wine powers into an exceptionally long, smoky, roasted coffee finish.
