Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
From a usually reliable producer and a top vineyard site, this is a bit of a disappointment. Some floral, apple-y notes grace the predominantly crushed-stone aromas, while the impression on the palate is broad and slightly unfocused.

This striking spätlese comes across as lush and decadent, yet without losing any focus. Crushed stones impart a sense of minerality on the nose, palate and finish, while the roundness comes from notes of honey, apple blossom and orange marmalade. Long and pristinely pure on the finish. Drink now-2030.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This richly concentrated wine offers plenty to like: dried apricot aromas, ripe melon and orange marmalade flavors and plenty of sugar. But there's a slightly mushroomy edge to the aromas and flavors, and this slightly fungal note persists through the finish, giving rise to some worry about how this wine will develop in bottle.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This auslese shows tremendously lush fruit and a wonderful sense of purity to its aromas and flavors. Scents of pineapple, vanilla and crushed stone lead the way, followed by notes of tropical fruit wrapped around a core of slate. Drink now–2015.

Light, clean and refreshing--all the qualities you might expect from a Mosel kabinett--and this wine has them. Pear, apple and melon aromas and flavors even bring hints of spice and minerality with them, elevating this wine above the rest of the pack.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Lacks the layered intensity that the 2003 version of this wine showed at this stage, but still delivers stony, minerally aromas and prototypical flavors of green apples and fresh limes. Light in body, but clean and wonderfuly refreshing on the finish. Imported by Valckenberg International, Inc.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This winery seems to be moving from strength to strength, turning out thickly concentrated yet precise wines in 2003 and now offering this lithe, succulent 2004 auslese. Lime and green apple aromas even smell refreshing, while the sweet apple and pineapple flavors are balanced by ample, yet soft, acids. A mouthwatering finish just adds to the package.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Boasts plenty of bright springtime aromas—rainwater and apple blossoms—but adds deep bass notes of mineral and earth. Honeyed tree fruits on the palate are sweet, but balanced by plentiful acids (not tart, malic acidity, but riper, tartaric acids). Thickly concentrated, yet light-bodied and fresh. Another 2003 that is drinkable now, yet should age for 10–15 years.

A succulent style that should have enormous appeal. Honey, pineapple and melon aromas and flavors show off Riesling’s fruity side, but the wine’s minerality keeps it from seeming overly simple.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Shows more delicacy than many 2003s, with flowery, green fruit aromas and a light, ethereal mouthfeel. Pear and melon flavors are easy to enjoy now, finishing soft. Imported by Valckenberg International, Inc.
