Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Very perfumed and aromatic nose, floral with exotic scents, hyacinth, lilacs, sweet and very ripe fruit; sweet and ripe in the mouth, light textures and now showing some real age; very ripe fruit flavors; a bit hollow in the middle and showing some dryness now, but still has a lot of elegance and softness in the mouth; the fruit in the mouth is refined, if aged, and tiptoes across the palate without leaving a lot of footprints, but does leave an impression; begins to fade in the glass after twenty minutes or so, but this is still a quality grand cru from a vintage that never was that good. (16.5/20)

Powerful and rich nose with layers of black cherries, smoke, earth, effervescent ripeness, floral scents that suggest lilacs and hyacinths, elegant; deep and rich in the mouth with loads of black cherry flavors, earthen, rich tannins, very good balance with harmonious, silky flavors; long finish, still seems young in the mouth with fresh flavors and forward fruit. (18.5/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
The nose on this wine is quite hard and dry and there is not much in the way of fruit here, there are some sweet floral aromas, but it is quite remote and hard to discern overall; the flavors in the mouth parallel the nose, with a decent structure, but little fruit to soften the textures; the wine has a hard shell, dry and austere, with some odd medicinal hints in the mouth; it seems to be not well made, and holds little interest in the mouth; the finish is dry and citric with little appeal at the end. (15.5/20) A second and third bottle from the same case was much better, with richer fruit, both in the nose and on the palate; quite sweet and ripe at the end; still not a particularly impressive wine, but deserves better than my initial rating.
