Wonderful nose of leather, smoke, herbs with that enticing sauvage character, powerful and intense aromas of black fruits and caramel; complex and big wine in the mouth with layers of sweet fruit and herbs, caramel and spice; classic syrah at its best; long finish with beautiful balance and a lingering black fruit set of flavors. Very different nose from the ’90 above, more lean and green aromas, green spices, pepper, earth, leather; the same in the mouth; not as rich or concentrated, but perhaps more elegant; if the 1990 is a bassoon, then this is an oboe; nice layered finish with fruit and earth; this will appeal to those who like the more restrained style. Very aromatic and perfumed nose, caramel, roasted scents, with a strange subtle hint of metal shavings; sweet and round in the mouth at the first taste, but can not hold the flavors, turning dry and tannic in the mid-mouth; keeps its balance, however, with sweet roasted flavors merging with the tannins; long, dry citric finish, a bit simple, but certainly good. Big nose, ripe and rich fruit, spices and herbs, smoke, leather, touch of citrus and red fruits but also sweet and ripe; wonderful flavors of taffy and caramel at the front of the mouth, fruit candy, lots of sweetness; a big wine, dense and intense in the mouth with loads of flavor; big finish, layered fruits mixing with citrus flavors; elegant and classic. Sweet and rich nose with deep sweet fruit aromas, black cherries and earth, smoke, spices; sweet and rich in the mouth with layers of black fruits and spices; lots of concentration in this wine, big and chewy in the mouth with earthen textures; long finish, ripe and rich; not exciting but solid.
