The aromas of clove, plum and earth are rustic but attractive. On the palate, spices and earth combine in a rich, full-bodied wine that blends in just enough red berries on the long finish. Should prove to be long-lived, but the tannins are soft enough to make it drinkable now.

Smoky and pungent, blending notes of earth, toast and plum. It’s lush, full and soft, caressing the mouth with ripe tannins. Lacks a bit of complexity compared to Gulfi’s single-vineyard wines, but is an outstanding value.

Starts off slowly, with some slightly reductive, sulfury notes that clear up quickly, opening into bittersweet chocolate and raspberry notes tinged with leather and earth. Creamy, mouthfilling, and with a long finish.

Wild aromas of roasted meats and dried spices mingle with dark berries and plum. It’s full-bodied and tannic, but the tannins are soft enough to make the wine approachable now. Bears a resemblance to Châteauneuf-du Pape in its warm-climate, untamed flavors and richness.

Gulfi regularly produces ripe, extracted wines that show a modern, intense side to Sicilian winemaking. This meaty Nero d’Avola offers thick aromas of exotic spice, black pepper and jammy blackberry. This big style will not appeal to everyone.

This blend of Chardonnay, Carricante and Albanello is partially barrel-fermented, imparting cinnamon and toast to go with ripe peach flavors. Finishes dry and slightly nutty.

Nero d’Avola at its best. Aromas of fleshy plums and ripe, juicy blackberries join toasty oak. In the mouth, bright cherry flavors swim with chocolate, coffee and abounding oak. The finish is long and full. Made to drink now, but will last 3-5 years. Best Buy.

An interesting blend of Carricante and Albanello, with pungent, smoky aromas that also bear some resemblance to brie cheese mold. Flavors are reminiscent of apple, melon and pear.
