Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Normally the Maipo Valley produces warm, dull Sauvignon Blancs. But this one has more kick and purity of fruit than most. The nose delivers tropical and melon aromas, while the palate is packed with lime, citrus and grapefruit flavors. It’s on the big side and a little clingy on the finish, but mostly it gets things right.

Light peach and mineral aromas are subtle and chunky. The flavors veer toward juicy orange and pineapple, while the overall take is one of freshness. Not complex in the least; very zesty. Imported by Remy Cointreau USA.

Feisty and bold, with olive and black fruit on the rustic nose. After it settles down the wine is lush and plump, with herbal, bitter chocolate and rich berry flavors. There are dry, peppery notes to the finish, and overall this shows the potential of Carmenère without resorting to overexraction or overoaking.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Hard, dry and minerally on the bouquet, with cider and pineapple as the main flavors. Zesty, lively and racy for sure, but also loaded down with juice-like flavors of apples and oranges. Big on kick but short on balance and elegance. Isn’t 14.8% is just too much for what should be an easygoing Chardonnay?

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Very aggressive on the nose, with penetrating aromas of menthol, olive and herbal fruit. That gentle but obvious herbal character persists on the palate, where cassis and plum flavors never come across as sweet or expressive. Finishes woody, with a touch of chocolate, while the mouthfeel is a bit grabby and tannic.

This Maipo estate is now aligned with Chateau Ste. Michelle of Washington, which doesn’t exactly impact this nice everyday Cabernet. Bramble and fresh berry aromas offer an entry, then there’s chewy raspberry on the palate along with a grace of vanilla and some warmth. A bone-warming wine for fall and winter.

Alluring on the nose, with herbs, spice, olive and mocha accenting rugged berry aromas. Big and jammy in the mouth, with black plum circled by coffee and clove notes. Weighs in as large, and it’s tannic as nails. But if you like yours ripe and ready, this should make the grade. Imported by Remy Cointreau USA.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Gritty and candied at first, with citrus and green herb taking control as it opens up. Slightly tart orange and lemon flavors are predominant, while the finish is simple and citrusy. Kind of bulky but still zesty.

Toasty for sure, with a strong blast of popcorn. Ripe and intense across the full-bodied palate, with bold shots of honey, apple and pear. Not deep or complex; winds up sort of sugary.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Citrus, lemon and honey aromas are big and clumsy, while overall the wine runs very thick and mouthfilling for Sauvignon Blanc. Maybe that’s because 10% was aged in oak. As for flavors, look primarily for orange and grapefruit.
